Discover Fish Net

Walking into Fish Net feels like stepping into a Memphis neighborhood staple that knows exactly who it’s cooking for. The smell of hot oil, seasoned batter, and fresh seafood hits you before you even reach the counter, and that’s usually a good sign. Located at 2731 Lamar Ave, Memphis, TN 38114, United States, this diner-style seafood spot has quietly built a reputation through word of mouth, steady reviews, and repeat customers who know what they’re getting every time.

I’ve eaten here more times than I can count, usually after a long workday when I want something filling without the fuss. The menu keeps things simple but effective-fried fish baskets, shrimp plates, wings, fries, and classic sides that don’t pretend to be fancy. What stands out immediately is consistency. According to consumer dining research from the National Restaurant Association, consistency ranks among the top three factors influencing repeat visits, and Fish Net nails that principle in real life. Whether it’s a quick lunch stop or a late dinner run, the portions and flavor rarely change.

The frying process is where experience shows. Orders are cooked fresh, not pulled from a warming tray, and you can hear the sizzle behind the counter while you wait. The batter is light but well-seasoned, allowing the fish to stay flaky inside without absorbing excess grease. That balance matters. Studies published by the Journal of Food Science explain that proper oil temperature reduces oil absorption by up to 30 percent, which matches what you taste here-crispy, not heavy.

One regular customer I spoke with during a visit mentioned how they always order the whiting fish combo because it reminds them of backyard fish fries growing up. That kind of emotional connection doesn’t happen by accident. The seasoning profile leans Southern, with peppery warmth rather than overpowering salt, making it approachable for all ages. The wings, often overlooked at seafood diners, hold their own here too, especially when paired with seasoned fries that stay crisp longer than expected.

Cleanliness and food safety also play a role in trust. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration emphasizes that seafood restaurants must follow strict temperature and handling guidelines due to the perishability of fish. Based on observable practices-gloves, clean prep areas, and quick turnover-Fish Net aligns with those standards, even if it doesn’t advertise them. That kind of quiet compliance builds confidence, especially for families and older diners.

Reviews across local platforms frequently highlight friendly service and fair pricing. While it’s not a sit-down restaurant with table service, the staff moves quickly and treats regulars by name, which adds to the neighborhood feel. One reviewer described the experience as bold flavor, fast service, and no nonsense, and that description fits perfectly. Those bold flavor words matter, and they’re earned through repetition, not hype.

There are limits worth noting. Seating can be tight during peak hours, and the menu focuses heavily on fried items, which may not suit diners looking for grilled or lighter options. That said, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration points out that fried fish remains one of the most popular seafood preparations in the southern United States, so the menu reflects local demand rather than trend chasing.

What keeps people coming back is trust. You trust that the fish will be fresh, the fries hot, and the order accurate. You trust that the flavors won’t suddenly change. And most of all, you trust that the place knows exactly what it is-a reliable seafood diner serving the community without pretense, one basket at a time.

  • Wanted some big boned buffalo, and hadn't been to them in years, so I figured I would try them again. I wasn't disappointed in the fish. I didn't really care for the batter they had on my fried green tomatoes. All the juices were GREAT!!!

  • It's Amazing! One Special thing is even though the name changed, the building is still the same, the main sign out front of the building is still the same, even the atmosphere. This ... Since my dad took me for my first Fish N' Chips at this Exact building when I was 6 years old in 1971. Thank You, for keeping up the Fantastic work in effort into this remarkable restaurant.
